Biography:
2022- Junge Oper Theater Dortmund
Since August 2022, the light lyric soprano Wendy Krikken, is part of the ensemble of the Junge Oper at Theater Dortmund. Since four years, the Junge Oper Theater Dortmund is performing new composed opera’s for children of different age categories. In the season 2023/2024 Wendy will be playing and singing the roles of Sanny in Instame, Prinzessin Rosalia in Prinzessin sein, Nein danke! And Mutter and KönigsDOCHter in Das NEINhorn. She will also perform again the roles of Baby in Mädchen in Not, Tara in Kirsa’s Musik and Papagena in Die Zauberflöte and Das Geheimnis der Zauberflöte.

In her first season 2022/2023 Wendy performed the roles of Tara in Kirsa’s Musik, Baby ind Mädchen in Not, Fanny in Der Häßliche and Papagena in Die Zauberflöte at the Oper Theater Dortmund.
2019-2021 Opera Studio NRW (Nordrhein-Westfalen) Germany
From August 2019, the light lyrical Dutch soprano Wendy Krikken (1992) will be taking part for the comming two years in the new Opera Studio NRW (North Rhine Westphalia, Germany). The Opera Studio NRW is a cooperation between four internationaly renowned opera houses: Theater Dortmund, Aalto-Musiktheater Essen, Musiktheater im Revier Gelsenkirchen and Wuppertaler Bühnen. Together they offer eight young talented artists a practical programme, with the goal to make an ideal start of their career in the opera world.
Due to the Coronavirus it is not sure yet which opera’s in the season 2020-2021 can take part. Planned opera’s are written in the agenda.
In the season 2019-2020, Wendy played the roles of Kate Pinkerton in the opera Madama Butterfly by Puccini (Theater Dortmund), Barbarina in the opera Le nozze di Figaro by Mozart (Wuppertaler Bühnen), and Giannetta in the opera L’elisir d’amore by Donizetti (Wuppertaler Bühnen) The Shows of the brand new opera Die Kinder des Sultans by Avner Dorman (Theater Dortmund), in which Wendy would have played Fadeya, where unfortunately cancelled due to Corona.
2016-2019 The University Mozarteum, Salzburg Austria
After three amazing years in the department Opera and Musical Theater at the University Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria, where Wendy completed her Post Graduate University course Opera and Musical Theater and the Master studies Opera and Musical Theater with big success, Wendy has to say goodbye to Salzburg with pain in the heart. But she is also looking back with proud to what she has achieved in this three years.
With roles as Clarice in the Opera Il mondo della luna, an opera buffa by Joseph Haydn, Helena in the Opera A Midsummer Night’s Dream by Britten, the role of die Kaiserin in the Japanese opera Lob des Schattens by Oscar Jockel, a scenic performance of Schönberg’s Pierrot Lunaire and the role of Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro by Mozart, Wendy has showed that she is a versatile performer in singing and acting and that it has taken her international to the highest level of performing and musicality. She is looking forward with curiosity and trust to what the future at the opera stage has to offer her.
Besides the journey to Hangzhou in china with the opera Le nozze die Figaro, Wendy took part in concerts in Salzburg, Filzmoos, Bad Reichenhall, Burgerland, Szeged, Budapest and Lednice.
Wendy studied at the department Opera and Musical Theater University Mozarteum with conductor Prof. Kai Röhrig, director Prof. Karoline Gruber and singing teacher Prof. Ildikó Raimondi.
2011-2016: Royal Conservatory, The Hague and Dutch national Opera Academy, Amsterdam
In June 2015 Wendy completed her Bachelor’s degree with the main subject Classical singing, with honors at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague, followed by a year at The Dutch National Opera Academy in Amsterdam.
Here she had her debut at the opera stage with the role of Zerlina in Mozart’s Don Giovanni and did she play the role of Scissors II in Kulenty’s opera The Mother of Black-Winged Dreams.
At the Royal Conservatory in The Hague and at The Dutch National Opera Academy she studied with Lenie van den Heuvel, Frans Fiselier and had coachings with Peter Nilsson, Carolien Drewes and Han-Louis Meijer.
1999-2011: Young Theatre School
From 1999-2011 Wendy Krikken was a member of the Young Theatre School through which she gathered much experience in the realms of musical, theatre and opera.
2008-2013: Competitions
In 2018, Wendy took part in the 52nd International Vocal Competition in ’s Hertogenbosch in The Netherlands and made it to the first round.
In 2013 she just missed by a hair getting into the finales at the “Concours Kasteel Doorwerth” competition.
In 2009 she won the Encouragement Prize at the “Prinses Christina Concours”.
General:
Besides her studies, Wendy is a sought after soloist by numerous choirs in the Netherlands and has participated in several choir tours abroad.
